Agribon-Cover Your Assets

Agribon in the DripWorks Demo Garden

You've spent all spring and summer, planting, weeding, watering, feeding, and nurturing the plants in your field or garden. Now an early frost threatens to wipe out all that invested time and money. So what do you do?

One readily available solution is Agribon™, a non-woven, spun polypropylene row cover material that can enable your field or garden to remain productive into the fall and, depending on where you live, well beyond. Though many think of this gauze-like material when they want to get the gardening season started early, it can also prolong your growing season.

Propagating Seed Starts

Agribon™ helps seed starts keep warm during the early spring days and holds in that warmth during the cold nights. The result is a higher germination rate and healthier plant starts.

 Extending Your Season

Agribon as a Shrub Cover

Agribon™ creates a greenhouse environment that gives your plants a jump start by moderating the daytime climate in your beds, giving the air around the plants a 6 degree boost. This means you can consider experimenting with growing crops whose season would normally be too long for your area. If a cold snap should arise, you can quickly warp your delicate shrubs and potted plants in Agribon™ to avoid frost damage.

Wind and Pest Control

Agribon™ also creates a windbreak effect against harsh winds, while allowing as much as 85% of the available sunlight through to warm the soil. This protected space keeps insects out, while helping your starts and growing plants thrive. If an infestation appears, you can respond quickly and cover your plants in minutes.

Covering Greens

Shade Protection

In the heat of summer, Agribon™ can be draped over greens, like lettuce, chard, and arugula that are susceptible to burning in direct sun. This not only provides a cooling effect but helps prevent the bitter taste that sometimes plagues greens subjected to too much direct sun.

Overwintering Crops

The Benefits of Overwintering with Agribon
Here at DripWorks we plant garlic every fall. We usually plant this long season crop the first week of October and harvest about the last week of June. In Northern California it’s too early to worry about frost when we plant, but keeping the beds 4-6 degrees warmer speeds up the germination process and helps insure the plants are well established by the time the cold weather hits. After the bed has been planted we form a supporting arch from a section of stiff, but pliable wire mesh fencing and lay the Agribon™ over top. For longer row crops, Loop Hoops work well to support the Agribon™ and make installation easier.

So don't throw away all that hard work you've put in throughout the growing season, cover those assets with Agribon.
